What's the Difference Between Favia and Favites Corals | Connecticut

Based in Bridgeport, CT, Max Reef offers a selection of both Favia and Favites corals for sale. Favia and Favites corals are both types of brain corals, but they have distinct differences in their skeletal structure.

Favia and Favites are 2 types of popular corals among aquarium hobbyist. Their considerably sized, brightly colored, fleshy polyps are visually appealing and create an element of color to any saltwater aquarium., Beyond that, they are typically located at LFS’s, they are affordable, easy to maintain, and are fairly hearty corals.
  • Favia corals have separate, distinct corallites (the individual skeletal cups housing each polyp), with visible walls separating each one.
  • Favites corals, on the other hand, have corallites that share walls, giving them a more fused and compact appearance.
This difference affects their overall texture and growth pattern, with Favites appearing more interconnected and Favia looking more segmented. Both are relatively hardy and popular in reef aquariums!
